Adaptation Forest

Implementing Climate Adaptive Strategies in the Berkshires

Adaptation Forest is a 200-acre forest located in the Northeast United States (Berkshire County, Massachusetts) where climate adaptation techniques are being tested and implemented to create a more resilient forest. Acquired in 2021, the forest is in an area facing climatic threats and is recovering from logging activities in the past decade. Immediate priorities include removing both maladaptive species planted last century and invasive species, improving wildlife habitat, increasing overall biodiversity and planting species better suited for the changing climate.

Lessons learned from Adaptation Forest will be shared with other landowners seeking to utilize similar climate-forward strategies.
